William Dwight Whitney:
1827 - 1894
William Dwight Whitney was born in 1827 in Northampton, MA. He attended the Yale Graduate school at the age of 18, to study Sanskrit. Upon completion of his studies, Whitney became a Professor of Comparative Philology at Yale University. He is known for his contribution to the 1864 edition of the Webster American Dictionary - assisted with the editing.
