Dr Joseph Garcia
Dr Joseph Garcia began studying American Sign Language in 1975 to become a certified ASL-English Interpreter. While working within the Deaf community, Dr Garcia observed infants of Deaf parents were able to communicate through sign at a much younger age than infants of Non-Deaf parents. This lead to his interest in early childhood language aquisition and the possible benefits of teaching sign to preverbal hearing infants. Since then Dr Garcia has continued to work on developing baby sign programs and has published a number of books and articles on the topic, such as the book, "Sign with your baby".
